A1: Equitable Use, Ethical Use, Social Responsibility
The purpose of this website is to demonstrate the importance of technology and how to incorporate it appropriately into your curriculum. This is for teachers and administrators who would like to learn more about technology and the benefits it can have for facilitating student learning.
My personal philosophy regarding technology in the classroom is that it should be used as much as possible. However, it must be used in a meaningful way. It should be done in a way that either makes the instruction easier to understand, more efficient for the teacher to create, and easier for students to understand what is expected of them. Technology during the activity part of the lesson should also be done in a meaningful way. It should be used in a way that helps them create new material and be able to save the information for long term use.
• equitable use
Technology is a great tool to enhance learning. However, making sure to use it in a meaningful way that is accessible to everyone can be challenging. Equitable use is essential when it comes to incorporating technology in the classroom. My personal belief is that you should be mindful when creating activities that require technology. The majority of the lesson should be able to be completed with technology that is available in the classroom or at school. Assuming all students have access to computers and the internet is not realistic. Having technology in the classroom is important because the ability to effectively use technology is mandatory in this day and age. It will give them skills they need to succeed later in life.
• ethical use
Ethical use requires making sure students are using technology in a safe and secure way. Teaching them how to research and find information appropriately is the goal. The internet is an invaluable tool, however there is a growing number of inappropriate content that can be easily accessed. Making sure to understand safeguards and blockers are important concepts for teachers to understand. Teaching students to be accountable and responsible when using technology is also important in this process.
• social responsibility
As a teacher, it is our job to help students develop a sense of social responsibility when using technology. Finding a balance between technology and real life is something many people struggle with, even adults. It is important to instill these values in students at a young age. Encouraging them to use technology in an appropriate manner that encourages positive social interactions is an essential skill they need to develop. Incorporating different types of educational technology to accomplish this is important.
